Prompt action by the Kolluru mandal disaster response team averted a major tragedy when 90 sheep and their shepherd were rescued from the rising waters of the Krishna River on Thursday (October 30, 2025).
According to officials, Paul, a shepherd from Chintalanka village under Gazulanka revenue area in Kolluru mandal, had taken his 90 sheep for grazing when the Krishna river’s water level suddenly began to rise. Trapped and in distress, the shepherd’s cries for help alerted local villagers, who immediately informed the mandal cyclone response team.

Responding without delay, Special Officer Nagireddy, SI Amaravardhan, SDRF officer Satyanarayana, and Tahsildar K. Venkateswarlu rushed to the riverbank. The team successfully rescued both the shepherd and all 90 sheep, preventing a potential disaster.
“Officials said the timely coordination between the community and the mandal emergency team exemplified the effectiveness of the district’s preparedness,” said SDRF officials.
