Manchester City have officially confirmed that Kolo Touré has joined Pep Guardiola’s first-team coaching staff on a permanent basis.
The 44-year-old former defender, who was part of the coaching team during the Club’s successful FIFA Club World Cup campaign earlier this summer, will now take up the role of assistant coach full-time.
Touré’s appointment comes after an impressive stint as Assistant Lead Coach with City’s Under-18s last season. Working alongside Lead Coach Oliver Reiss, he played a pivotal role in guiding the young side to the Premier League Under-18 North title. The team narrowly missed out on the national championship, falling 1-0 to Aston Villa in the final.
Under his joint leadership, the U18s also reached the FA Youth Cup final, once again finishing runners-up to Villa in a tightly contested match. Touré’s influence and experience clearly left a mark on the academy setup.
Touré began his post-playing career with the Ivory Coast national team before serving on Brendan Rodgers’ coaching staff at both Celtic and Leicester City. He also held a brief managerial role at Wigan Athletic prior to joining City’s youth academy.
As a player, Touré won Premier League titles with both Arsenal and Manchester City, earning a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most respected defenders.
Director of Football Hugo Viana praised the decision to integrate Touré into the senior coaching team on a permanent basis:
“We’re delighted to permanently add Kolo to our first-team coaching staff.
Not only does he bring immensely valuable experience at football’s elite level, but he also has a deep connection with Manchester City and a thorough understanding of the Club."
