The South Central Railway has approved a proposal by Vijayawada MP Kesineni Shivnath (Chinni) for platform expansion and height enhancement at the Kondapalli railway station. The approval has been granted under the Umbrella Works 2024–25 scheme, and the works are expected to begin soon.
The General Manager of South Central Railway, Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, conveyed the approval in a letter to the MP recently, also assuring that the proposal for upgrading the station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme will be considered in the next phase.
In a press release on Monday, Mr. Shivnath expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for their support in addressing long-pending public issues.
Earlier, on June 3, the MP, and Mylavaram MLA Vasantha Krishna Prasad inspected the Kondapalli railway station. Local commuters and railway officials pointed out that inadequate platform height and length were major problems for passengers boarding and alighting trains.
At present, the station has a 366-metre-long platform, of which only 136 metres is of a high level and the rest is of a low level causing inconvenience to hundreds of passengers daily.
To address these issues, the MP met the SCR GM at Secunderabad on August 22 and submitted a detailed proposal seeking platform improvements, enhanced passenger amenities, and inclusion of Kondapalli in the Amrit Bharat 2.0 modernisation programme.
