Korgao panch molested, no justice month on: Panchayat

Mapusa: The Korgao panchayat in Pernem has said their woman representative was molested a month ago while discharging her lawful duties, but even after approaching all the appropriate authorities, she has not got justice.Members of the panchayat allege that the local MLA is trying to hush up the case.According to the panchayat, a case of molestation of the panch was registered against two suspects at the Pernem police station on May 10. The woman was targeted during the inspection of a tree which could have collapsed at any time on the house of an elderly woman, the panchayat said.“The suspects should be arrested immediately,” the panchayat said in a press conference on Tuesday.“After a complaint was made by the elderly woman, the deputy collector ordered that the dangerous tree be cut,” said deputy sarpanch Diwakar Jadhav. “During the inspection, our woman panch member was assaulted by the accused who is a local, in front of police and govt officials.”He added, “A first information report has been registered but no action has been taken even after a month. The Pernem police inspector and the MLA are involved in suppressing the case.”Jadhav has urged chief minister Pramod Sawant to give justice to the woman.
