After years of delay, the Congress on Thursday inched closer to wrapping up its organisational reshuffle in Kerala by expanding its political affairs committee (PAC) besides appointing 13 vice-presidents and 58 general secretaries.
Sources in the party said the list of secretaries would also be announced in a week or so.
Lok Sabha MPs Rajmohan Unnithan, V.K. Sreekandan, and Dean Kuriakose and Pandalam Sudhakaran, C.P. Mohammed and A.K. Mani have been added to the PAC to enhance its strength from the present 32 to 38.
T. Sarathchandra Prasad, Hibi Eden, MP, Palode Ravi, V.T. Balaram, V.P. Sajeendran, Mathew Kuzhalnadan, MLA, D. Sugathan, Remya Haridas, M. Liju, A.A. Shukkoor, M. Vincent, MLA, Roy K. Paulose, and J. Jaison Joseph have been appointed vice- presidents of the party.
The jumbo list of general secretaries includes Sandeep Warrier, who defected to the Congress from the BJP in 2024 and was later appointed party spokesperson.
Palode Ravi, appointed vice-president now, had to step down as president of the Thiruvananthapuram district congress committee (DCC) in July this year after a leaked phone conversation of his had put the party in a spot.
Commenting on the rejig, a senior leader said certain norms were followed in the selection of KPCC office-bearers. “Members of Parliament, who weren’t part of the PAC, have now been included. Former DCC presidents and leaders with at least 10 years of experience working as secretaries have been given promotions. Many sitting and former MLAs have also been included in the new committee. But exemption was given to women who have excelled in leadership roles and leaders from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The inclusion of Hibi Eden, Ramya Haridas and BRM Shafeer shows that the youth have been given adequate representation in the committee,” he said.
