The employees association of Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS) has demanded that the State government separate residential schools under the supervision of KREIS from the Social Welfare Department and include them with permanent employees under other departments concerned.
Addressing a press conference in Yadgir on Saturday, president of the association H. Ashok and secretary Raju Rathod said that with the intention of bringing all residential schools under it, the KREIS was formed in 1999.
But educational activities were affected after the KREIS focused more on the construction of buildings. Therefore, the State government separated minority residential schools from KREIS in 2015, citing administrative reasons, they said.
Now, the association demands that other residential schools like Moraraji Desai and Kittur Rani Channamma schools should also separate from KREIS for similar reasons and put their permanent staff there, they said.
Demanding benefits, they said that a total of 21 residential schools are running in the district with 5,252 enrolments and with 184 permanent staff. The staff have no benefits such as Jyothi Sanjeevini, death and retirement benefits. Therefore, the government should consider their demands with 10% special allowance for permanent employees, they said.
Both Mr. Ashok and Mr. Rathod said that employees will start a dharna Monday seeking fulfillment of their demands, as they are already carrying out their duties wearing black band under protest.
Suresh Tadabidi, Nagareddy, Shantabai, Hayyalappa Pujari and others were present.
