Krishnadev Yagnik credits Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan starrer for 'Vash Level 2'; Says, 'Because of 'Shaitaan','Vash' got a lot of recognition'

Filmmaker Krishnadev Yagnik, who directed the Gujarati horror-thriller 'Vash' and its sequel 'Vash Level 2,' shared that his film gained nationwide attention only after its Hindi remake, Shaitaan, turned into a big success.

He explained that while 'Vash' was already popular in Gujarat, it was 'Shaitaan' that introduced the story to a larger audience across India.

Krishnadev Yagnik on Gujarati cinema’s growth

In a chat with Moneycontrol, filmmaker Krishnadev shared that Gujarati cinema is slowly carving out a space in the wider Indian film industry.

Vash’s journey to recognition

His 2023 film 'Vash' won the National Award for Best Gujarati Film, but it was the Hindi remake 'Shaitaan' that truly gave the story recognition across India.

The 'Vash' and 'Shaitaan' connection

When asked whether 'Vash' gained recognition only after the release of its Hindi remake 'Shaitaan,' or if it was the other way around, KD shared his thoughts: "No, no, no. Actually, it was because of 'Shaitaan' that 'Vash' got a lot of recognition. When 'Vash' was released, the film was running very slowly in the first week. It didn’t go straight up like 'Vash 2' is doing right now. So, in the second, third, and fourth weeks, the movie caught up.

After that, when 'Shaitaan' went viral, everyone came to know that it was a remake. So, I would like to give the credit to 'Shaitaan' for getting 'Vash' its much-needed recognition. And Vash’s sequel was also made because of 'Shaitaan'."

Ajay Devgn's praise for 'Vash Level 2'

Ajay Devgn recently took to his social media to praise the second installment of the horror film. His Instagram note read, "Good cinema travels far." Best wishes to @krishnadevyagnik, @kumarmangatpathak, & the entire team of Vash Vivash Level 2. A special shoutout to @jankibodiwala for shining yet again."
