The Kuppam police have launched a crackdown on misleading social media posts claiming that Krishna waters had stopped flowing into the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) Kuppam branch canal and that the canal had “dried up.” Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had formally released Krishna waters through the HNSS canal into the Paramasamudram tank near Kuppam on August 30.

Deputy SP (Kuppam) Parthasarathy said the false propaganda had created unease among farmers at the tri-State junction during the crucial agricultural season. The police confirmed that a case had been registered against a YSR Congress Party sympathiser after posts and videos on the issue surfaced on social media in recent days. “We have already initiated legal action against such accounts,” Mr. Parthasarathy said. An investigation is underway to trace the origin of the campaign.

Officials clarified that water is being supplied through the HNSS canals as scheduled and dismissed reports of disruption as “baseless.” Inspections revealed that the water flow in the canal is steady. The Deputy SP urged farmers not to share such false content and warned that strict action would be taken under cybercrime and other relevant laws against those spreading misinformation.
