KURUKSHETRA: Haryana chief minister (CM) Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday launched an ambitious 11-week cleanliness drive aimed at transforming Kurukshetra into the cleanest and most beautiful city in the country.
The mission, titled “Swachh Kurukshetra – Mera Kurukshetra, Mera Abhiyan”, will run from August 24 to November 7, covering every street and neighborhood of the historic city.The campaign was formally launched at the Gita Gyan Sansthanam, a private institute, where CM Saini, along with RSS ideologue Swami Gyananand, former minister Subhash Sudha, Kurukshetra deputy commissioner (DC) Vishram Kumar Meena, and senior BJP leaders unveiled the campaign poster.
On this occasion, CM Saini administered a cleanliness pledge to the citizens and officials of Kurukshetra, marking the official commencement of the mission.Speaking at the event, CM Saini said, “Kurukshetra, the land of the Bhagavad Gita, will now emerge as the cleanest and most beautiful city of India. This mission is not just about cleanliness but about creating an identity of a cleaner Haryana. Every lane, every neighborhood will become a symbol of this transformation.”
He emphasised that under the Haryana City Cleanliness Mission 2025, the drive in Kurukshetra will be carried out as a people’s movement. To ensure effective execution, committees have already been formed across the 32 wards of the Thanesar Municipal Council under the leadership of former minister Subhash Sudha. The DC and other senior administrative officers have prepared detailed action plans, and officials will work tirelessly throughout the 11 weeks to achieve the goal.The CM underlined that the mission’s success will depend on the active participation of citizens alongside the government and administration. “When every individual contributes to the campaign, Kurukshetra will undoubtedly become a model of cleanliness for the entire country,” he added.With this initiative, Kurukshetra – revered as Dharmakshetra (the land of righteousness) – now embarks on a mission to set a national benchmark in urban cleanliness and civic responsibility.
