La Liga champions Barcelona picked up a 3-2 win on the road at Levante on Saturday as the holders kept their winning momentum alive with their second victory in as many assignments this season.

Ivan Romero and Jose Luis Morales put Levante two-up in the first half, before Barcelona completed a second-half turnaround with goals coming from Pedri, Ferran Torres and an own goal by Unai Elgezabal.

“They made it very difficult for us, we have to improve a lot," Barca head coach Hansi Flick said following the gilt-edged win.

Pedri, who marked the beginning of the turnaround in fortunes revealed that he has been urged to shoot more often by the unit and the counsel came in handy as he netted early following the resumption of play to instill a sense of renewed energy in his side as they went on to complete a dramatic fightback.

“They always tell me to shoot and look, in the first half I had a shot like a kid and in the second half I was able to score," the Spanish midfielder said.

Atletico Remain Winless

Diego Simeone’s Atletico have yet to secure a win this season, following a 1-1 draw with newly promoted Elche, which leaves them with just one point after two disappointing matches.

Similar to their 2-1 defeat at Espanyol the previous weekend, Atletico took the lead in the first half at the Metropolitano on Saturday.

“We wanted to win, we deserved to win the match," said Diego Simeone.

“From the Espanyol match to today’s match, there was improvement. They played better. The result is not there but we need to work, be patient."

Alexander Sorloth latched onto David Hancko’s perfectly-weighted pass into the left channel, before scoring past the advancing goalkeeper in the eighth minute.

Rafa Mir equalised for Elche in the fifteenth minute with a precise finish at the end of a swift counter-attack.

Giuliano Simeone came close to restoring Atletico’s lead shortly before halftime, but his shot glanced off the post. However, the goal would have been disallowed as Sorloth was offside in the build-up.

Conor Gallagher had a chance to secure Atletico’s second goal in the 79th minute when he intercepted Matias Dituro’s errant clearance near the halfway line, but his long-range half-volley went wide of the unguarded goal.

Marcos Llorente had the best opportunity moments later but his snap-shot went inches wide of the far post.

Diego Simeone was booked deep into stoppage time for his frustrated reaction to a penalty not being awarded following a tussle in the box, as Atletico faced further frustration.

Earlier, Mallorca and Celta Vigo shared the points when Mateu Morey’s late equaliser for the home side cancelled out Javi Rueda’s first-half opener.
