The Chikkajala police have arrested a labourer for beating his co-worker to death over a trivial row over cooking non-vegetarian food at a under construction building they were living during Chhath Puja.
The incident occurred at Navarathna Agrahara, Jala Hobli where the accused Radheshyam Chauhan and deceased Shambu Thanti, 48, were working.
According to the police Shambu Thanti, hailing from Bihar was observing Chhath Puja for a week and objected to Radheshyam cooking non-vegetarian food during this period. The duo had an argument on Sunday night and complained to Surendra Pandita, their senior, about the issue. Pandita reportedly pacified the duo and told them that he would sort out the issue the next day.
However, on Monday when Pandita called Shambu Thanti the next day he was not answering calls. He sent other workers to check on him, who found him lying dead in a pool of blood and Radheshyam missing. The accused reportedly called one of his co-workers and confessed that unable to bear the harassment and fight with Shambhu Thanti over non-vegetarian food, he had beaten him to death while he was sleeping and even strangled him to make sure he was dead.
The Chikkajala police have registered a case of murder and have arrested Radheshyam.
