The Tilak Nagar police on Sunday arrested two labourers for allegedly murdering a 35-year-old woman.

The accused have been identified as Subramani, 32, and Senthil, 28. They are residents of KHB Colony in Tilak Nagar, and were working as daily wage labourers.

A probe revealed that the duo was in a relationship with the victim Salma. The victim got in touch with them after her husband died a year ago. She lived with her four children in the BTB colony and was working as a domestic help to support her family.

The trio used to meet up frequently to drink alcohol. The police said the duo started suspecting Salma of cheating on them. On Saturday, while drinking together, the duo started arguing with Salma, accusing her of having a relationship with another man. In a fit of rage, Subramani allegedly attacked Salma with a blunt weapon. She collapsed and died on the spot.

Realising that she was dead, the duo decided to dispose of the body. They wrapped the body in a cloth and dumped it inside the autorickshaw that was parked near the Tilak Nagar police station on Friday night.

On Saturday evening, passers-by noticed the body and alerted Salma’s mother, Parvin Taj, who then alerted the police.

The police booked the duo under Section 103 (murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
