Land dispute leaves one critically injured; 2 detained

Kanpur: A land dispute turned violent in Kotra Makrandpur village on Monday evening, when a man and his wife allegedly pelted stones at an elderly man and his son, leaving the former critically injured.The accused also reportedly fired shots from a country-made pistol with the intention of targeting the elderly man.According to police, the dispute is over an under-construction house in the village.As per the complaint filed by the victims, local resident Vikram Nishad was present at the construction site with his father, Gajraj Nishad. At that time, Jeet Kumar, a resident of the same village, arrived with his wife, Ramgeeta, and allegedly started abusing them.The complainant alleged that the duo began pelting stones at him and his father. In the stone-pelting, the elderly Gajraj Nishad sustained serious injuries. Vikram alleged that Jeet Kumar later produced a country-made pistol and fired at his father, which he escaped.After receiving the information, Sajeti police reached the spot, detained Jeet Kumar and his wife Ramgeeta, and recovered a country-made pistol from their possession.Sajeti station house officer Anuj Bharti said that a case has been registered based on the victim’s complaint and further investigation is underway.
