Lanka Dinakar, Chairman of the 20-Point Programme, called on Prakasam District Collector P. Raja Babu at his chamber in the Ongole Collectorate on Saturday (September 20, 2025). They both discussed the speedy completion of Veligonda project works to provide water in the Western part of the district for drinking, irrigation and industrial needs.

As the first phase of works are likely to be completed within the next one year, Mr. Dinakar proposed to develop the Veligonda project and the surrounding places like Cumbum Lake (Gundlakamma Lake) as tourist destinations. He had recently visited Cumbum town and suggested the officials to improve the infrastructure required for the development of tourism near the lake.

“The backward region of West Prakasam must be developed as one of the major tourist destinations in the State to the maximum extent possible,” he said, adding that the memorials of great classical music composer Tyagaraja and noted civil engineer Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya must be set up here to attract the attention of global tourists.

He further proposed to showcase the uniqueness and heritage of this region through construction and the development of a tourist circuit to the areas and temples around Cumbum Lake. He said that these issues should be taken forward in coordination with Giddaluru MLA Ashok Reddy and APTDC Chairman Nookasani Balaji.
