Bengaluru’s newly inaugurated Yellow Line of Namma Metro carries a familiar touch: the warm, clear voice of late actor, television presenter and anchor Aparna Vastarey continues to guide passengers, just as it has on the Purple and Green lines for years.

Ms. Vastarey, who had been the Kannada announcer for Namma Metro since 2014, passed away on July 11, 2024, in Bengaluru after a prolonged battle with lung cancer. According to officials of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), she had pre-recorded the announcements for the Yellow Line before her demise.

Her recorded messages, reminding commuters to “mind the gap” and announcing the next station, have been a constant for lakhs of Bengalureans navigating the city’s expanding metro network.

The Yellow Line, inaugurated recently, connects R.V. Road to Bommasandra, and with every ride, Ms. Vastarey’s voice continues to echo through its coaches.
