Well, much to the dismay of NBA fans all over, it seems like ‘The King’ will take his sweet time before he throws himself onto the battlefield this upcoming season.
According to the latest updates, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is expected to be out of action till mid-November, owing to his nerve injury.
James reportedly began experiencing the nerve issue during a workout in late July or early August.
The 40-year-old forward, who is set to embark on his 23rd NBA season, averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists in 70 games last season.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, James is targeting mid-November for his comeback as he continues to deal with sciatica on his left side.
It is believed that October 30 has been set as the key date for LeBron’s next evaluation. However, he’s expected to need a few additional weeks after that to reach full game conditioning.
“I’m told that the Lakers and LeBron are looking around mid-November as a realistic debut for him," ESPN’s Charania stated.
“And so, October 30th would be the earliest that the Lakers would be officially re-evaluating LeBron James.
“It is expected he will need at least a few weeks after that point. A source told me tonight that LeBron will be taking a ‘patient approach’ with this rehab from nerve injury, and so the ramp-up process for this will be a lot of basketball-shaped conditioning work."
James has not participated in a full practice since the Lakers opened training camp last week.
After practice on Thursday, coach JJ Redick mentioned that James was “on his own timeline."
An hour later, the Lakers announced an injury timeline, indicating that James is likely to miss at least their first five or six games, possibly more.
“You’ve got to play the cards you’re dealt," Redick said. “That’s a shame, but that’s just the reality. No one has had any time with LeBron. That’s not just (new centre Deandre Ayton), but everybody. (James) hasn’t been on the court with the team, but that’s just the reality."
The Lakers begin the regular season at home on Oct. 21 against Golden State. They have eight games in a 13-day span starting Oct. 24.
