Left parties protest 50% tariff hike on Indian products imposed by US

COIMBATORE: Left parties staged a protest in the city on Friday condemning the 50% tariff hike on Indian goods imposed by the US. CPI state treasurer M Arumugam presided over the protest held in Ukkadam.

The protesters demanded roll back of the 50% tariff hike imposed by US President Donlad Trump. They urged the central govt to provide relief to exporters in Coimbatore and the Tirupur districts.More than members of Left parties took part in the protest.CPIM Coimbatore district secretary C Padmanabhan said, "Left parties have been protesting against the central govt's internal policies for the past 11 years. This time, due to our central government's external policies, US President Trump has imposed a 50% tax hike against India. This tax hike will not affect our economy if the central govt strengthens domestic consumption of goods," he said.
