Legal services clinics for defence personnel and families launched in Jharkhand

Ranchi: Legal services clinics, which will provide legal aide to serving and retired defence personnel and their families, were inaugurated by Tarlok Singh Chauhan, the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, on Saturday.

Justice Chauhan inaugurated the clinics, set up in each district under NALSA’s Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana 2025, through virtual mode at a function which was held at Kerketta Auditorium in the Dipatoli military cantonment. A 90-day campaign was also launched with the aim to create awareness and identifying beneficiaries.“Legal services clinics for bravehearts, veterans, and their families are not mere ceremonial events but a solemn pledge.

This is the judiciary’s humble tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to safeguarding the nation. The judiciary of Jharkhand stands firmly with our soldiers,” CJ Chauhan said. He said that while the army stands impenetrable on the borders, their families and the veterans face battles of different kinds including legal issues on the home front.

He assured that clinics would handle every legal issue from pension claims to property disputes to family law with utmost care and efficiency.

Judge of Jharkhand High Court and executive chairman, JHALSA Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad said that the scheme was launched on the advice of the honorable Chief Justice with the purpose of ensuring that immediate relief reaches the army personnel, former servicemen and their dependent family members in need of legal assistance.He emphasized that the object of the scheme is also to make them aware of their legal and constitutional rights under Article 39A of the Constitution of India.He requested that the army should also provide the list of former army personnel with law degrees who can be empanelled for the purpose of giving legal advice under the scheme. Judges of High Court of Jharkhand, including Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi and Justice Sanjay Prasad, general officer commanding (GOC) 23 infantry division major general Sajjan Singh Maan, deputy GOC, 23 infantry division brigadier Raj Kumar and district administration officials were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.
