Lewis Hamilton has dismissed speculation about not racing for Ferrari beyond next year after a disappointing 2025 season following his move from Mercedes.

The seven-time champion has set an unwanted record by going 20 races without a podium finish, the longest in Ferrari’s history, and currently stands sixth in the drivers’ championship with 146 points, 64 fewer than his teammate Charles Leclerc.

Rumours began circulating about Hamilton’s future after another disappointing performance at last month’s Mexico City Grand Prix, where he received a harsh 10-second penalty. There was talk that he might be replaced by 20-year-old Briton Oliver Bearman, a Ferrari protege currently with Haas. Bearman, who finished fourth in Mexico and has had a strong rookie season, also dismissed the idea of replacing Hamilton as unrealistic.

Hamilton, 40, commented: “I have a pretty long contract. Normally, when you do a contract, it’s usually the year before that you start to talk about it. And I’m a little bit far from that right now."

Speculation about Hamilton intensified during a challenging season with Ferrari, where he failed to achieve a podium finish – something he had never failed to do fewer than five times in his previous 19 years in F1. He also pushed for changes in Ferrari’s working practices.

This speculation was further fuelled by the uncertain future of team boss Fred Vasseur and the recent departure of Hamilton’s former performance engineer Riccardo Corte from Ferrari.

On Thursday, Hamilton expressed his views on the need for the International Motoring Federation (FIA) to improve penalty procedures, citing several controversial incidents in Mexico. He was the only driver punished for cutting across the grass and rejoining the track, which he felt lacked clarity and transparency.

Hamilton said: “I think that’s probably part of the big issue of transparency and accountability, and also the secrecy of decisions made in the background."

He added: “It’s something that definitely needs to be tackled and done in the background, but I don’t know if they’re aware of the way that their decisions can ultimately steer careers and decide a championship, as you’ve seen in the past. Some work needs to be done."
