Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has said that Enzo Fernandez’s outburst at teammate Filip Jorgensen is very similar to what Roy Keane did during his playing days, as he downplayed Fernandez’s on-field behaviour.
Rosenior believes such outbursts are normal on the field and are often needed to push players to perform better.
Speaking to the media, Rosenior said that he welcomed the incident when Fernandez was seen shouting at Jorgensen after his mistake against PSG, dismissing it as a normal reaction following an error.
“I watched it back, I was asked about it after the game and I had not seen it. As a player with passion, he wants to win. Roy Keane did that, probably. Roy Keane was my manager, but Roy Keane as a player probably did that 20 times a game," Rosenior said.
“I want a team with a culture of accountability where we can demand from each other in the moment. Enzo loves Filip. Enzo wants the best for him; Enzo believes in him," Rosenior added.
Referring to the mistake that led to PSG’s third goal and shifted control of the match, Rosenior added that he has no problems with Jorgensen, stressing that everyone makes mistakes.
“Everybody makes mistakes in life, in football. It is how you recover, it is how you respond to a setback. I have no issues, no lack of trust with the two goalkeepers I have," Rosenior said.
Chelsea were level at 2-2 against PSG when Jorgensen’s error while attempting a tough pass allowed the hosts to take the lead. The French team went on to win the first leg 5-2.
That came in the 74th minute, after Chelsea had twice fought back through Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernandez following earlier strikes from Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele for the hosts.
