‘Liberate’ festival begins in Thiruvananthapuram

Communist Party of India (Marxist) [(CPI(M)] State secretary M.V. Govindan inaugurated the ‘Liberate’ festival organised by Chintha Publishers at Jawahar Balabhavan in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.

Speaking after inaugurating the festival themed on ‘knowledge, technology and society’, Mr. Govindan said the growth of science and technology should be welcomed. However, it is also necessary to examine how technology is used at various levels of social life when imperialism stands firm on the extreme right wing in the world, he said.

He also inaugurated the international book festival of science, technology, and knowledge books, organised in connection with the festival. CPI(M) district secretary V. Joy, MLA, presided over the event. Writer Ethiran Kathiravan delivered the keynote address via videoconference. Internationally renowned scientists, technologists, and social scientists are participating in the festival, which will conclude on September 3.
