The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in collaboration with IEEE hosted a Consortium Train the Trainer Programme on e-Resources for librarians on its campus in Belagavi on Thursday.

Working professionals and other delegates from various colleges arrived at the Shri S.G. Balekundri Central Library and Information Centre on the Jnana Sangama campus.

“The event aimed to empower our scholars, faculty, and researchers with advanced resources and tools to elevate their research impact and streamline access to a wealth of academic content,” said a release.

Vice-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of VTU Consortium, Vidyashankar S. delivered the presidential address.

He emphasised the growing importance of e-resources and digital access in fostering academic and research excellence across VTU-affiliated institutions.

He said that the event has a strategic significance for students and staff, particularly Ph.D scholars.

“Such resources will enable researchers to publish in high-impact journals (Q1, Q2, Q3), ultimately contributing to VTU’s reputation and rankings, such as the NIRF,” he said.

He encouraged young researchers to actively engage with these resources to boost their academic visibility and the university’s research prominence.

Registrar (Evaluation) T.N. Sreenivasa stressed on the importance of expanding VTU’s digital library ecosystem to support interdisciplinary research and foster collaboration.

The technical sessions featured insightful presentations by global publishers like Elsevier – Science Direct and Scopus Database, Emerald Publishing – ICE Resources, Springer Nature, Taylor and Francis Group.

The event provided an enriching platform for library professionals to enhance their understanding of digital resource management and strengthen VTU’s commitment to knowledge upgradation and academic innovation.

Librarian and Coordinator, VTU Consortium, Somaraya B. Tallolli welcomed the delegates.

Assistant librarian Sameen Afreen Khan anchored the event. Registrar, VTU, Prasad Rampure and other officers were present.
