Lingayats, Vokkaligas hold meetings ahead of re-enumeration of castes in Karnataka

Ahead of the re-enumeration of castes, the Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva-Lingayat Mahasabha and the Vokkaliga Sangha are holding meetings to ensure that the “real numbes” of the communities are reflected in the new survey.

The Mahasabha held a meeting here on Friday, chaired by Forest Minister Eshwar B. Khandre and attended by legislators from across parties, and resolved that they would stick to a common nomenclature as ‘Lingayat’ or ‘Veerashaiva’ under the religion column and mention subcastes in the relevent section.

The Vokkaliga Sangha has also urged its community members to declare themselves as ‘Vokkaligas’ in the appropriate column so as to not give any room for confusion.
