Lisa Mishra: I have returned with a little more confidence and understanding of the craft

As Call Me Bae returns for its second season, Lisa Mishra is stepping back into the project that marked the beginning of her acting journey. Reprising Harleen, the singer-actor returns to a familiar space with more experience behind her and a renewed perspective as an actor.

Lisa says, “Coming back to Call Me Bae for Season 2 feels incredibly special because this show is where my acting journey began. I have a certain emotional attachment to it because it gave me my first opportunity to explore myself as an actor, and that’s something I’ll always be grateful for. It’s also been amazing to return with a little more confidence and understanding of the craft. Revisiting this space feels like coming home, while also stepping into a version of it that has evolved over time.

” Talking about the new season, she adds, “What’s really exciting this time around is how much bigger and more vibrant the world feels. The girlhood in Season 2 is definitely more pronounced. It feels more layered and expressive, with a deeper sense of friendship, chaos, vulnerability, and joy coming through in the storytelling.” Talking about Harleen’s arc in the new season, Lisa points out that the character continues from where audiences last saw her.

“In Season 1, Harleen Babbar balances her work and personal life simultaneously, ultimately choosing herself. This season, we see what weight that decision holds after the breakup. We pick up where we left off with her love story.”In an ensemble-driven show, Lisa believes the writing naturally gives each character their own space and identity. “I think the writing does that, so I don’t have to. We are very lucky to have Ishita Moitra as the creator and writer of the series. She has always kept the supporting character arcs in mind, so they never feel sidelined or tokenised. I simply have to enact that vision,” she concludes.
