India will have a new Vice President by Tuesday night, with members of Parliament set to vote to fill the post left vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar’s abrupt resignation. The contest has pitted the BJP-led ruling NDA’s nominee, Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan, against the opposition INDIA bloc’s choice, former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy. Polling will begin at 10 am in the new Parliament building, with members of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha eligible to cast their votes until 5 pm. Counting of ballots will start at 6 pm, and the results are expected later in the evening. Although the BJP-led alliance has a numerical advantage, the outcome could hinge on cross-voting since MPs are not bound by a party whip and ballots are cast in secrecy.
