Liverpool are monitoring Antoine Semenyo as Mohamed Salah’s form dips, with Bournemouth bracing for interest.

Mohamed Salah’s sluggish start to the season has sent ripples through Anfield, with Liverpool reportedly eyeing Bournemouth’s in-form forward Antoine Semenyo as a potential successor to the Egyptian talisman.
Liverpool Step Up Succession Planning
According to The iPaper, Liverpool chiefs are accelerating their long-term attacking plans after Salah’s dip in form continued during the early weeks of the 2025–26 campaign.
The Reds are said to be “closely monitoring" Semenyo, whose explosive start to the season has drawn interest from several Premier League giants, including Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
The report adds that Bournemouth “know they face a battle" to keep the 25-year-old Ghanaian forward, whose release clause has caught Liverpool’s attention.
Sources suggest the Merseyside club could look to exploit the clause in the January transfer window, with Semenyo seen as a natural fit for Arne Slot’s high-tempo attacking system.
Liverpool’s pursuit may also benefit from the Africa Cup of Nations scheduling. While Salah will captain Egypt during the tournament, Ghana’s failure to qualify means Semenyo would remain available for club duties in January.
Salah’s Struggles Raise Concerns
Salah, 33, has been one of Liverpool’s most consistent scorers over the past eight years, amassing 248 goals in 412 appearances and collecting multiple Golden Boots along the way.
But this season, the “Egyptian King" has looked a shadow of his former self.
Since scoring on the opening weekend, Salah has gone seven consecutive Premier League games without a goal from open play — his longest barren run since joining the club. His muted display in the recent 2–1 defeat to Manchester United, where Harry Maguire’s late header sealed Liverpool’s loss, further fueled debate over his form and future.
Manager Arne Slot has publicly backed his star forward, insisting he will not make tactical changes to the right flank despite Salah’s struggles. However, with Luis Díaz sold to Bayern Munich and Darwin Núñez departing for Saudi Arabia, Liverpool’s attacking depth has been stretched thin.
That leaves Slot with just five senior forwards, including Cody Gakpo, who himself has failed to hit top form.
Although Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike can fill in wide roles if necessary, neither are natural wingers — prompting renewed urgency in finding a right-sided attacker like Semenyo.
