A local city court, hearing a petition by the Indiranagar Residents’ Welfare Association, has given an interim stay on the work on the indoor basketball stadium in Indiranagar till the next date of hearing scheduled on June 10. Following this, the contractor has been asked to stop work, sources said.

The local RWA has been opposing building a basketball stadium at the playground, alleging this would hamper access to children from poor backgrounds. However, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been refuting these allegations and said that the stadium would remain accessible to the public and it was not being handed over to any private firm.

However, Indiranagar I Stage League RWA had approached the court seeking an stay order on the works. The court in its order on Thursday issued notice to the BBMP and said: “It is directed that the construction work in pursuance of work order dated March 21, 2025 shall not take place till next date of hearing”.
