Lohardaga's 'Panchayait Kar Goith' Initiative: Transforming Rural Areas Through Panchayat Raj

Gumla: Lohardaga administration has launched 'Panchayait Kar Goith' (Talks Of Panchayat) - a unique approach which aims to transform rural areas through the panchayat raj system in the district.Conceptualised by Lohardaga DC Kumar Tarachand, this innovative move is not only enlightening the panchayat raj system but also ushering in a new phase of village upliftment. It does so by setting up new panchayat committees, executing schemes that panchayats previously had no access to, and sorting out rural issues. Grievances are also redressed quickly, and feedback is received from mukhiyas about govt schemes.On its outcome, Ramdhan Bhagat, mukhiya of Badki-Chapi panchayat, said, "The initiative has narrowed the gap between panchayat and different departments, and problems and their redressal also. It has enhanced our confidence and understanding of our duties and responsibilities.""We have now started knowing various govt schemes, and development schemes are now being taken up in villages," Kakargarh mukhiya Chemni Toppo said.

In a first for the state, panchayats have been facilitated to generate their own revenue from bazaar haats, sand mining, and pisciculture, officials said. Every Monday, the DC, in an online meeting, talks to mukhiyas of the selected panchayats in the presence of authorities of all departments, and solutions to problems are sought instantly.The administration rolled out this 'direct dialogue' with panchayat representatives on June 12, 2025, and all 66 panchayats in Lohardaga are being covered in turn."Under the programme, we come to know what is lacking in panchayats and whether mukhiyas and ward members are acquainted with their rights and responsibilities, various govt schemes, and their grievances too,” Tarachand told TOI."Instantly, the administration jumped into action to address accordingly, and a new phase of execution of a volley of programmes started. Officers of different departments were directed to initiate prompt action after getting feedback from mukhiyas," he said.
