Officers of the Lokayukta laid a trap for a senior engineer of the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWS&DB) and arrested him while he was accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh.
Farmer Yasin Pendhari of Khemlapur village in Belagavi district filed a complaint with the Lokayukta that Executive Engineer Ashok Shiroor sought a bribe of ₹1 lakh to release land acquisition compensation of ₹18 lakh.
Pendhari’s land was acquired by KUWS&DB for a drinking water project in Raibag taluk.
A team of officers led by Police Inspector Niranjan Patil and Govindgouda Patil stormed into the KUWS&DB office and arrested the accused while he was accepting the amount.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and other laws, said a release from Superintendent of Police Hanumantaraya S.
