Lorry driver found dead in Vellore, kin block road in protest

A 25-year-old lorry driver was found dead with injuries at Keeraisathu near Katpadi on Ponnai—Vellore High Road in Vellore on Friday.

Police said passers-by saw the body of C. Ekambaram, a native of Keeraisathu village, and informed Ponnai police.

After the news spread, relatives and residents gathered at the spot and blocked the Ponnai—Vellore High Road, a key stretch connecting Vellore, Ranipet and Tirupattur, demanding immediate arrest of suspects. Along with revenue officials, the police pacified the agitated crowd and assured them that suspects will be arrested soon. 

Residents dispersed after assurance from police. Traffic on the stretch was hit for more than an hour before the police restored normalcy. Special teams have been formed to nab the suspects.

Ekambaram is married to E. Adilakshmi and they have two children. He had been working in a private tannery unit for the past few years.
