Rob Pelinka, the general manager and president of basketball operations for the Lakers, Dr. Leroy Sims, the director of player performance and health for the Lakers, Lara Beth Seager, the chief brand officer and business manager for Doncic, and Javy Barrio, Doncic's physiotherapist, were all on the group chat.

With an average of 34.7 points per game and a spot on the tournament's All Star Five, Luka Doncic stole the EuroBasket spotlight. At least one title has been won by the superstars who have worn the purple and gold. These include Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, George Mikan, Jerry West, and Elgin Baylor.

On the other hand, Rob Pelinka had a clear plan going into the summer of 2025. In order to have the flexibility to recruit elite players in one of the two next offseason, they sought to assemble a competitive team around Luka Doncic. Talking about it, he once told ESPN: "Luka has a tremendous amount of heartfelt pride and appreciation for his roots and playing for his country.. I just think in the partnerships we have with our players, the Lakers want to be mindful of players' passions and who they are as men and then lean in and support those things.
So, around Luka, it was a very easy partnership decision that we wanted to support."
He continued:“Luka’s play in EuroBasket made it clear to the entire basketball world that he’s on that incredibly short list of ‘best player on the planet’ candidates, if not at the top.
