Love, lies, and murder: Where cops nabbed Sonam Raghuvanshi days after her husband’s shocking murder

NEW DELHI: Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of murdering her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon trip in Meghalaya, has surrendered to police in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.Sonam, 24, was located at Kashi Dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur road late Sunday. After initial medical treatment at Sadar Hospital, she was moved to a One Stop Centre in Ghazipur for safety and further interrogation.She has been kept under tight security, as police teams from Meghalaya and Madhya Pradesh are en route to take her into custody and escort her for further investigation.

Hired killers, planned murder

According to Meghalaya DGP LR Bishnoi, Sonam is accused of orchestrating her husband’s murder by hiring three men from Madhya Pradesh.

“A major breakthrough has been achieved. Three assailants have been arrested, and the female accused has surrendered. One more accused is still at large,” he posted on X.Sonam surrendered at Nandganj police station in Ghazipur before being officially detained.

The case so far

Raja Raghuvanshi, a young man from Indore, was found murdered while on a honeymoon trip to Meghalaya with Sonam. Suspicion quickly turned toward his wife, as investigators uncovered alleged premeditated planning behind the killing.

Meghalaya ADGP (Law & Order) Amitabh Yash confirmed that Sonam was sent for medical examination and would be questioned further once brought to Meghalaya.Meanwhile, police say the three arrested men have confessed that they were paid to kill Raja, reportedly at Sonam’s behest. One more suspect remains absconding.With Sonam in protective custody and set to be transported to Meghalaya, the police are now focusing on piecing together the full timeline and motive. Her interrogation is expected to be crucial in revealing how and why the plot was hatched—and whether more people were involved.
