‘Don’ Luka Doncic is on track to light up the league yet again.

After a much-talked-about offseason body transformation, the new-look Los Angeles Lakers star is showing exactly what that work was for.

Returning from a three-game injury absence, Doncic wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard on Friday night against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Doncic’s 44-point masterpiece came with 12 rebounds and six assists for good measure.

With his onslaught, Doncic etched his name into Lakers history, joining the likes of one Black Mamba, Kobe Bryant, as the only Laker to  average 45 points over a three-game stretch.

That’s not all. Doncic also joined an exclusive list of two.

He’s one of only two players in NBA history to score 40-plus in each of his first three games of a season. The other? The great Wilt Chamberlain.

“I mean, I feel great," Doncic said when asked about joining such elite company. “But obviously, if we get a win, I feel even better. That’s the whole point — trying to help the team win. Sometimes it’s going to be scoring, sometimes other things."

Prior to Friday’s game, Doncic was averaging 46.0 points per matchup, while shooting 62 per cent from the field. From beyond the arc, he knocked down 31 per cent of his shots on 11 attempts per game.

So, to keep it brief, Luka is nearly averaging a triple-double with 11.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists.

Without their new superstar, the Lakers had looked wobbly, barely scraping by thanks to an Austin Reaves game-winner against Minnesota. But with Doncic back in the mix, Los Angeles got a serious lift, improving to 4–2 after taking down Memphis.

And the scary part? The Lakers still aren’t at full strength, as LeBron James has yet to make his season debut.

If this is what Doncic looks like coming off an injury, the rest of the league might want to brace themselves.
