Madhya Pradesh: 16-year-old girl gang-raped in Datia; 1 accused held, 4 others on the run

BHOPAL: A 16-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly gang-raped by five youths in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh after being lured by a phone call. The accused also shot a video of the assault and threatened to make it viral if she resisted.According to police, the incident took place on August 22 when the survivor had come to Datia with her mother.Around 1 pm, she stepped out to buy essentials at a supermarket when a familiar youth from her village called and insisted, she meet him. On reaching the spot, she found four others already waiting.In her statement at the women’s police station, the girl said the five overpowered her and took turns assaulting her.Later, she somehow managed to return home and narrated the ordeal to her mother. The family then approached Civil Lines police and lodged a complaint.Police have registered a case and arrested one accused. The four others are on the run. Raids are being carried out to trace them, officials said.
