With six ministerial berths vacant in the Telangana Cabinet, MLAs from the Madiga community (a sub-caste within the Scheduled Castes) have stepped up pressure on the Congress leadership for fair representation to them.

A delegation of Congress legislators, including Adluri Laxman, Mandula Samuel, Kale Yadaiah, and Kavampalli Satyanarayana, met AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal in Delhi on Thursday to press for their demand.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr. Laxman, who also serves as a Government Whip in the Assembly, said that there were six MLAs from the community and one of them should be given the opportunity in the next Cabinet expansion. He was hopeful of the high command taking their appeal seriously. The MLAs also plan to meet Rahul Gandhi.

Tungaturthi MLA Mandula Samuel said the issue was also taken up with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The MLAs claimed that Mr. Venugopal gave an assurance that their issue would be discussed and justice done.

The demand comes at a time when the Congress government in Telangana is under pressure to maintain social and regional balance in its cabinet appointments.
