Trump said he had always been in favor of foreign students including those from China.
MAGA activists were up in arms as President Donald Trump 'chickened out' and said that he had always been in favor of foreign students coming to the US, including the Chinese students.
“I think it’s a great thing,” Trump said. “It’s also good for our schools. It’s good for our country. I’m also in favor of having them stay.”"Does it mean you have to watch people? Yeah, you have to watch the students. But you have to watch other people also," Trump said adding what he said earlier that he wanted students who are graduating in the US to work in the country. Trump's softening of the stance on Chinese students comes after US and China finally found a breakthrough in their ongoing trade war.
The State Department earlier announced that they would unleash a massive crackdown on Chinese students' visa and would be "aggressively" revoking only their visas. Calls tod report Xi Jinping's daughter were also made as China was singled out and targeted.
"TRUMP TACOs — AGAIN. First, he caved on mass deportations. Now? He’s rolling out the red carpet for half a million Chinese students—then says he wants them to stay," one wrote adding that MAGA got played.
"After backing down on deportations, Trump will now take in more Chinese students. MAGA fell for it again," another wrote. "Trump just accepted 500,000 Chinese students which is more people than the populations of two states that voted his incompetent self into office. What a joke we look like," one comment read."Hey MAGA, your Highness is giving away your jobs. He's also bragging about bringing in 500,000 Chinese students to take your places at good schools, and letting them stay. They'll be taking your jobs and housing, too," one wrote.
