Frustrated by delays in the House, Trump has emphasised the urgency of passing the measure, calling it a “historic opportunity” for Republicans to deliver on their promises

As House Republicans struggled till late on Wednesday night to advance President Donald Trump’s domestic tax bill, the former president unleashed a public rebuke of his own party, warning that internal delays are “costing you votes."
Republicans had kicked off a key procedural vote on the legislation, which narrowly passed the Senate on Tuesday, but by early Thursday morning, five GOP members had voted “no," potentially tanking the motion unless others changed their vote. With just three GOP defections allowed if all members are present, the vote hung in limbo with eight Republicans still unaccounted for.
Earlier in the evening, Trump projected confidence, declaring on Truth Social that the Republican caucus is “UNITED." But as dissent persisted, his tone shifted sharply. “Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy. What are the Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove???" he wrote. “MAGA IS NOT HAPPY, AND IT’S COSTING YOU VOTES!!!"
In a follow-up post, Trump added: “FOR REPUBLICANS, THIS SHOULD BE AN EASY YES VOTE. RIDICULOUS!!!"
Sources say the GOP leadership and Trump had spent the day lobbying hesitant members in a last-minute push to meet their self-imposed July 4 deadline to send the legislation to Trump’s desk. But with conservative hardliners and some moderates expressing concern over provisions in the bill, momentum appeared to stall.
Trump’s public frustration underscores the high stakes: a landmark tax reform bill that is central to his 2025 economic agenda, and a party still wrestling with internal divisions, even under unified control.
President Donald Trump has dubbed the sweeping tax reform legislation his “Big Beautiful Bill," touting it as the largest tax cut in American history and a cornerstone of his 2025 economic agenda. The bill aims to slash corporate taxes, reduce rates for individuals, and stimulate business investment — moves Trump claims will reignite the economy and restore American prosperity.
Frustrated by delays in the House, Trump has emphasised the urgency of passing the measure, calling it a “historic opportunity" for Republicans to deliver on their promises and secure voter support ahead of the upcoming election.
