Maharashtra horror: CCTV captures fatal stabbing outside police station after man tries to save friend

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: The chilling moments of a fatal stabbing outside Kannad City police station in the early hours of Sunday were captured on CCTV footage, leading to the death of a 25-year-old man.The victim, Navid Sheikh Akram of Tilaknagar in Kannad, was allegedly attacked after he stepped in to help a friend who was being assaulted by a group of men. Investigators said the violence was the result of a long-standing feud between two families.Following a complaint lodged by eyewitness Azhar Sheikh Noor, Kannad City police registered a case of murder, attempt to murder, rioting and unlawful assembly against seven accused.“We have arrested one of the suspects, Mobin Yunus Shaikh (25), and have deployed teams to trace and arrest the remaining six named in the FIR,” Kannad City police inspector R B Sanap said. “Mobin too was injured as the attacker, who dealt knife blows, ended up hitting him too in the brawl,” the officer said.According to police, the chain of events began when Parvez Khan Wahab Khan contacted Navid around 12.30 am. Parvez reportedly told him that he had been attacked by his uncle and others and was receiving treatment at Ghati hospital.

He also claimed that relatives of his uncle were waiting outside the hospital and feared another assault.Navid, along with Azhar and two other friends, went to the hospital and later accompanied Parvez to Kannad City police station to file a complaint. After completing the procedure, they remained outside the police station with some of Parvez's relatives at about 1 am.Police said one of the accused suddenly attacked Parvez from behind with an unidentified weapon.

The other accused then joined in and allegedly began beating him. As Navid and his friends tried to stop the assault, one of the attackers allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Navid in the neck and stomach.Navid suffered serious injuries and collapsed. He was taken to a hospital in Kannad, where doctors declared him dead. Police said accused Mobin Yunus Shaikh also sustained injuries during the clash.The accused fled immediately after the attack.Speaking to TOI, complainant Azhar said, “Before anyone could understand what was happening, we were attacked. In the assault, we lost our friend.”Investigators said the incident appears to have originated from a family rivalry that has continued for nearly 10 years.Inspector Sanap said, “Parvez runs a pharmacy store in Kannad, while his uncle is employed in Dubai. The two families have been at loggerheads for nearly a decade. Relatives have informed us that there were multiple clashes between them in the past few years,” the officer said.
