Water levels in the river Krishna receded on Tuesday due to reduced rainfall in parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Bridge-cum-barrages in at least eight places were thrown open for traffic as water flow reduced.
These bridge-cum-barrages are in the villages of Jatrat, Bhojwadi, Akkol, Sidnal, Kunnur, Karadaga, Yadur and Manjari, officials said.
The total release of water from Maharashtra reservoirs into the Krishna and its tributaries was 51,948 cusecs. This was 1,579 cusecs higher than Monday’s release of 50,369 cusecs.
For the first time during this monsoon, Maharashtra released 5,500 cusecs of water from the Koyna dam into the river Krishna on Tuesday.
The dam authorities managing the inflow are trying to balance the impounded quantity of water. The dam recorded an inflow of 25,478 cusecs. The dam has 76.5 tmcft of water or 72% of the full reservoir level.
Officials are not impounding water in the Hipparagi barrage. The dam recorded an inflow of 50,460 cusecs and an outflow of 49,810 cusecs. As inflow is high in the Krishna, the river is in a free flow state, hence storage is not done in the monsoon period, officers said in a release.
The Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir on the Krishna at Almatti recorded an inflow of 42,577 cusecs and an outflow of 25,000 cusecs.
The dam has 97.13 tmcft of water or 78.92% of the full reservoir level.
The Narayanpur dam recorded an inflow of 25,000 cusecs and an outflow of 3,000 cusecs. The dam has 30 tmcft of water or 90% of the full capacity.
