Rich tributes were paid to the immortal national song ‘Vande Mataram’ by students, research scholars, faculty members and non-teaching staff of Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam Rich tributes were paid to the immortal national song ‘Vande Mataram’ by students, research scholars, faculty members, and non-teaching staff of Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) here on Friday, marking the 150th anniversary of the song penned by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee.
“Written in 1875, ‘Vande Mataram’ continues to stand as a timeless symbol of national pride, unity, and devotion to India,” said Vice-Chancellor V. Uma, describing Chatterjee’s composition as an inspiring contribution to the freedom movement and India’s literary heritage.
To mark the occasion, students and teachers turned up in handloom saris in the shades of the tricolour. It may be recalled that SPMVV faculty members had already resolved to wear handloom on the 7th of every month, which coincided with this special anniversary.
Registrar N. Rajani, deans of various schools, faculty members, and students stood in silence as a mark of respect when the song was played.
