Elon Musk is not happy with Grok's response, says ‘working on it’

Elon Musk has criticised the Grok chatbot which has been developed by his own artificial intelligence startup

xAI

. The tech billioanaire said that the chatbot’s response was a "major fail" after it highlighted the frequency of right-wing political violence compared to left-wing violence. Musk also stated he is "working on it” to improve Grok’s reply. The incident occurred when a X (earlier Twitter) user, named @GrokChecker, asked the AI tool on, "@grok since 2016, has the left or right been more violent?" This query was in response to a tweet suggesting a decline in support for the Democratic party.Replying to this query, Grok provided data on politically motivated attacks over the last decade. The chatbot said: “Since 2016, data suggests right-wing political violence has been more frequent and deadly, with incidents like the January 6 Capitol riot and mass shootings (e.g., El Paso 2019) causing significant fatalities.”

What Elon Musk said about Grok’s response

Respodning to Grok’s reply, Musk wrote: “Major fail, as this is objectively false. Grok is parroting legacy media. Working on it.”

Previously, conservatives have accused Grok, which X users often use to fact-check claims, of favoring liberals in its responses. This is not the first mistake of the Grok chatbot that was flagged by users. Last month, Musk’s AI company xAI issued a clarification regarding a controversy involving its chatbot, Grok. Several users on X reported that Grok was generating responses referencing the theory of "white genocide" in South Africa, even when asked about unrelated questions about sports, entertainment, or general topics. The chatbot also made mentions of the anti-apartheid chant “Kill the Boer.”At that time, xAI attributed the issue to an unauthorised modification of Grok’s system prompt. In a statement posted on X, the company said that this change violated internal policies and core values, causing the chatbot to generate responses about politically sensitive subjects. xAI confirmed that the issue was quickly identified and fixed, though it did not reveal who made the modification. Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman took a jab at Musk following the incident, mocking Grok’s inappropriate response.
