Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development K. Pawan Kalyan has directed the officials to make effective use of the ₹2,000 crore sanctioned to Andhra Pradesh under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) by the Central government for improving rural road infrastructure.
“There should be no compromise on quality, and the responsibility for ensuring standards rests on the administrative machinery,” Mr. Pawan Kalyan said.
“The government is determined to ensure that every rupee of SASCI funds benefits the people directly through durable, high-quality roads,” he said, while addressing senior Panchayat Raj and engineering officials on Tuesday.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan said the Central and State governments were working in close coordination to uplift rural infrastructure. “It is necessary to carry out quality checks at every stage of construction,” he said, and warned that any lapses would invite strict accountability. “Engineers must brief the contractors about the required standards in advance and monitor compliance rigorously,” Mr. Pawan Kalyan said, adding, “I will conduct field inspections along with technical experts to verify the adherence to quality norms. Any irregularities or substandard work will not be tolerated,” he warned.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan informed that the funds would primarily be used to reconstruct badly damaged Panchayat Raj roads. Priority would be given to severely affected routes to ensure safe and reliable connectivity. “Good roads are essential for development and service delivery. Under the SASCI scheme, we now have an opportunity to strengthen road network in every constituency,” he said.
As part of the Sri Sathya Sai Baba centenary celebrations, the government allocated ₹35 crore from the SASCI funds to strengthen roads and infrastructure in Puttaparthi, the Deputy Chief Minister said. “These are the kinds of meaningful and lasting works that SASCI funds will enable,” he observed.
