Malappuram clinches hat-trick win in Kerala school science fest

Malappuram district clinched a hat-trick win at the State School Science Festival, which wrapped up here on Monday, securing 1,548 points to claim the championship for the third consecutive year.

Though Palakkad and Kannur recorded 1,487 points each, Palakkad was awarded second place on the basis of 17 first prizes it won and Kannur third.

Thrissur district was in the fourth place with 1,477 points, followed by Kozhikode (1,468), Ernakulam (1,427), Wayanad (1,409), Kottayam (1,400), Thiruvananthapuram (1,397), Kollam (1,392), Kasaragod (1,376), Alappuzha (1,348), Pathanamthitta (1,336) and Idukki (1,313).

In school level, Sacred Heart HSS, Dwaraka, Wayanad, became the overall champions with 164 points. Durga Higher Secondary School, Kanhangad, Kasaragod, became the runner up with 140 points and Fathima Matha Girls Higher Secondary School, Koompanpara, Idukki, got the third place with 135 points.

In science mela high school category, Rajiv Gandhi Memorial HSS, Mokeri, Kannur, won the first prize and St. Thomas HS, Marangattupilly, Kottayam, won the second prize.

In high school mathematics mela, MIHS, Poonkavu, Alappuzha, won the first prize and GVHSS, Mananthavadi, Wayanad, the second place.

In high school social science mela, Memunda HSS, Kozhikode, and WOHSS, Pinangode, Wayanad, shared the first prize and STHSS, Irattayar, Idukki, won the second prize.

In high school work experience mela, Durga HSS, Kanhangad, Kasaragod, won the first prize and HSS, Panangad, Thrissur, won the second prize.

In high school IT mela, CHSS, Chattanchal, Kasaragod, won the first prize when Gandhiji EMGHS, Santhigram, Idukki, and IUHSS, Parappur, Malappuram, shared the second prize.

In higher secondary science mela, Mamparam HSS, Kannur, won the first prize and Catholicate HSS, Pathanamthitta, won the second prize.

In higher secondary mathematics mela, GHSS, Konni, Pathanamthitta, won the first prize and TRK HSS, Vaniyamkulam, Palakkad, won the second prize.

In higher secondary social science mela, GHSS, Puthoor, Kollam, won the first prize when GHSS, Konni, Pathanamthitta, and Swamiji’s HSS, Edneer, Kasaragod, shared the second prize.

In higher secondary work experience, Durga HSS, Kanhangad, Kasaragod, won the first prize and GHSS, Karakkunnu, Malappuram, won the second prize.

In higher secondary IT mela, St. Ephreme’s HSS, Mannanam, Kottayam, won the first prize and Sacred Heart HSS, Dwaraka, Wayanad, won the second prize.

Valedictory function

General Education director Umesh N.S.K. inaugurated the valedictory function held at Government Moyan Model Girls Higher Secondary School on Monday evening.

He also gave away trophies to the winners. Additional director C.A. Santhosh presided over the function. Additional director Shibu R.S., higher secondary deputy director Ubaidulla, general education chief planning officer Deepa Martin, deputy director of education Saleena Beevi, and district educational officer Asif Aliyar spoke.

General education joint director Aboobacker welcomed the gathering. Reception committee convener Biju Vijayan proposed a vote of thanks.
