Pang Chendi village in Malappuram district on Saturday bid a tearful farewell to nine victims of a tragic accident involving a team of teachers from the village. Nine members of the group, seven of them women, were killed and four others injured when their van careened off the road and tumbled nearly 500 feet down the hillside while negotiating the sharp curves of the Valparai Ghat Road near Pollachi on Friday evening.

Heartrending scenes shattered the calm as the entire village gathered for a final glimpse of their beloved teachers when the bodies were brought to Government Higher Secondary School, Pang, for public viewing after postmortem procedures were completed at Pollachi in the early hours of Saturday.
