Maldives President Muizzu Extends Condolences To Kin Of Delhi Blast Victims: ‘Deeply Saddened’

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, Riaz Hamidullah, and embassies of Iran, Japan, UK, and Argentina expressed condolences after the deadly blast near Delhi’s Red Fort killed eight.

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday expressed condolences over the deaths in the blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, saying his country stands in solidarity with India during this difficult time.

The explosion occurred near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro station in the national capital, killing eight people and injuring at least 20 others.

“Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives in the blast in Red Fort, Delhi this evening. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and good wishes for swift recovery of the injured. The Maldives stands in solidarity with the people and Government of India in this difficult time," President Muizzu said.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, also expressed solidarity with India. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with all those impacted, including their families. Bangladesh stands by India at this distressful hour," Hamidullah said.

The Embassy of Iran conveyed its “deep sorrow" over the incident, offering condolences to the government and people of India.

“The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India expresses its deep sorrow over the loss of lives and injuries of several Indian citizens in the car blast incident in Delhi, and extends its sincere condolences to the Government and the people of the Republic of India. The Embassy also conveys its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families of the victims and wishes patience and comfort for them, as well as a speedy recovery for those injured in this tragic incident," it said.

Condolences also poured in from the Ambassadors of Japan, the United Kingdom, and Argentina, who extended prayers for the victims and wished a swift recovery to the injured.

Earlier, Home Minister Amit Shah told ANI that a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near Red Fort around 7 p.m. on Monday. The explosion injured several pedestrians and damaged nearby vehicles.

Shah said that teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Special Branch reached the spot within 10 minutes of receiving the information, and further investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway.
