A 39-year-old man was arrested in Sydney on Monday after allegedly driving a car into the gates of the Russian consulate.
New South Wales Police said officers were called to the consulate following reports of an unauthorised vehicle parked in the driveway. When police tried to speak to the driver, he allegedly accelerated and rammed the gates. He was arrested at the scene and is assisting police with the investigation.

The NSW Police dog unit later searched the vehicle before it was removed by tow truck. A consulate staff member used a hammer to repair the gate, which remains operational and is now closed and guarded by Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers.
Members of the Russian community were taken to the grounds through a pedestrian gate after the car was cleared.
According to a report by The Sunday Morning Herald, pro-Kremlin influencer Simeon Boikov, also known online as “Aussie Cossack," who has been sheltering at the consulate for nearly 1,000 days after being charged with assaulting a pro-Ukraine protester, said he was woken by police sirens around 8:30 am.
Believing at first there was a fire next door, he came out to see the Toyota on the consulate’s lawn.
According to Boikov, the driver had already been pursued by police before crashing through the gates.
