The Basaveshwara Nagar police apprehended a man for allegedly creating a ruckus at the police station and objecting to the arrest of a woman, who reportedly cheated several persons to the tune of crores of rupees.

Initially, police thought that the man, Yogananda, 52, was a lawyer. However, police later found out that he was a classmate of Savitha, the woman accused of cheating.

Yogananda also tried to take Savitha’s house keys away, which was seized by the police.

“He has been booked for assault and use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and remanded to judicial custody,” the police said.

Savitha was arrested for allegedly defrauding more than 20 women of several crores after befriending them at kitty parties in the city.

According to the police, Savita used these social gatherings to build trust with wealthy women, claiming to have close ties with prominent political figures and reportedly collected large sums of money from them promising high returns. She also lured many women into investing in her gold business and allegedly cheated them. She was earlier booked in a similar case and was out on bail, the police said.
