SALEM: The Thevur police in Salem district have arrested a senior citizen on charges of kidnapping his four-year-old granddaughter. The police have also arrested a real estate agent in connection with the kidnap case.The arrested men have been identified as P Lokidass, 60, and real estate agent K Kumar, 48. Lokidass kidnapped his son Raja’s daughter Kavisha on July 30 when she went to a nearby anganwadi.Raja and his wife, Meena, filed a complaint at the Thevur police station. The police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Salem superintendent of police Gautam Goyal formed four special teams to trace the girl. More than 25 cops from Namakkal district also joined the search.On August 4 evening, a two-wheeler rider wearing a helmet left the child near the Kumarapalayam police station. The police rescued the girl and reunited her with her parents.The police conducted a thorough investigation to identify the kidnappers. “Using the registration number of the two-wheeler which was seen on CCTV footage, we traced and arrested K Kumar, 48, and the girl's grandfather from the KalluKadai area," said Sankari deputy superintendent of police Sindhu.
Lokidass told the police that he had kidnapped his granddaughter as she had been beaten up and ill-treated by his son. He kidnapped the girl on a two-wheeler and left her at Kumar's residence.On learning about the police investigation, Kumar dropped the girl near the Kumarapalayam police station. Both have been remanded in judicial custody.
