A man was arrested near the Sealdah court in Kolkata after a chase, the police said, adding that a firearm was recovered from his possession.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning after a home guard and a civic volunteer, who were on duty near the court, noticed a young man loitering in the area, news agency PTI reported.

As the man made an eye contact with the home guard, he started running along the Beliaghata Road, which raised suspicion that he might be a mobile phone thief, officials said.

The on-duty officials chased and nabbed him.

Upon searching him, they recovered a firearm hidden under his T-shirt.

The man was then handed over to the Entally police station. An investigation into the man’s motives is underway.
