Coimbatore: A lift service engineer was crushed to death under a lift at a house in the city on Thursday.The deceased has been identified as Ragu, 39, of Cheran Nagar in Peelamedu. According to police, Ragu was working at a private lift service and installation firm in Saravanampatti.
On Thursday, Ragu, his employer Sindhubharath, 32, and colleague M Ananth, 30, were replacing a damaged glass door of a lift at a house owned by P Venkatesh, 43, of Rangappa Layout in Selvapuram.They halted the lift on the first floor and turned off the power supply to carry out the work. Ananth was holding the glass door from outside the lift area on the ground floor while Ragu was engaged in fitting it. However, the lift descended to the ground floor from the first floor.
The duo did not notice the lift descending. When the lift struck the glass door, Ananth jumped and managed to escape, while Ragu got stuck under the lift.He sustained severe injuries. Ananth, with the help of others, rescued Ragu and informed the 108 ambulance services. The ambulance staff members examined Ragu and declared him dead.The Selvapuram police have registered a case against Sindhubharath, Ananth and Venkatesh and began investigations.
